The Enforcement Directorate's Chennai Zonal Office-II has provisionally attached movable and immovable assets worth about ₹85.19 crore in its money laundering probe into Dream Makers Global Private Limited (DMGPL) and others, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
The case grew out of an FIR registered by the Economic Offences Wing in Coimbatore. That complaint invokes provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Tamil Nadu Protection of Interests of Depositors Act and the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act, which the ED then used as the base offence for its own inquiry.
According to the agency, DMGPL and its key managerial personnel drew money from thousands of depositors by pitching investments in software projects and packages. The pitch allegedly included high daily returns and a promise of doubling money in 150 days. Early payouts were made, the ED says, but the company later defaulted, leaving investors with heavy losses.
The agency's trail of funds points to roughly ₹400 crore credited to three principal DMGPL bank accounts. It alleges the money was moved through multiple accounts, taken out in cash and paid to associates, and also used to buy properties, vehicles, gold ornaments and other assets. Investigators also flagged diversion for personal benefit and heavy commissions paid to agents who brought in depositors.
Why it matters: schemes promising fast, fixed and outsized returns are a recurring hazard for small savers, and the early payouts are often what builds trust. Attachment is a provisional step and is not a finding of guilt, but it aims to preserve assets that could eventually be used to address investor losses, subject to legal process.
The ED says it carried out searches and surveys at premises linked to the company on June 30, 2026, seizing documents and electronic devices. Further investigation is under way, and the digital evidence may help map how deposits flowed and who benefited.
