Former Oregon Star Questions LSU's Top 25 Ranking After Tigers Drop to No. 22

Former Oregon tight end George Wrighster III has publicly criticized LSU's continued presence in the college football rankings, arguing that his former team deserves recognition over the Tigers. His comments come after both programs suffered Week 6 losses that resulted in dramatically different poll outcomes.

LSU dropped from No. 10 to No. 22 following a 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky, while Oregon fell out of the rankings entirely after a 17-15 defeat to then-No. 21 UCLA. Wrighster questioned this discrepancy on his college football podcast, noting that LSU lacks victories over ranked opponents and has lost both times they faced top-25 competition. He emphasized that Oregon has faced four currently ranked teams, the toughest schedule in college football.

The Tigers entered Week 6 ranked three spots ahead of Oregon despite the Ducks' more challenging slate. LSU's losses came against Ole Miss and an unranked Kentucky team, while both Oregon defeats were to ranked opponents. The nature of the losses also differed significantly—LSU scored 34 points in regulation and overtime, while Oregon's offense struggled with quarterback Dylan Raiola being benched during his first start after managing just 43 yards and two interceptions through three quarters.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning acknowledged the difficult position following the UCLA loss, telling media that the team no longer controls its destiny but can control how it responds. The Ducks face Nebraska next as they attempt to work their way back into playoff contention.
