Bengaluru will host the FIBA Women's Basketball League Asia 2026 from October 20 to 25, marking a significant moment for Indian basketball as six top Asian clubs converge at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara announced the championship at a press conference on Monday, emphasizing the state government's commitment to transforming the city into a major basketball hub.

The tournament features prominent teams including Denso Iris from Japan, Cheongju KB Stars from South Korea, Sichuan Yuanda Meile from China, Akari Sparks from the Philippines, Cathay Life Tigers from Chinese Taipei, and Indian Railways, the current national champions. Each team will include two American players, while NBA players will also participate in the competition.

Organized by the Karnataka State Basketball Association in collaboration with the Basketball Federation of India and supported by the state's Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, the event will see two matches scheduled daily at 4 pm and 7 pm throughout the six-day championship.

Parameshwara highlighted that the tournament provides Indian Railways with a rare opportunity to compete against Asia's strongest clubs while offering young players across Karnataka and India the chance to witness international-level basketball firsthand. The deputy chief minister expressed confidence that the championship will help promote women's basketball in India and inspire more young girls to pursue the sport professionally.
