Student activists detained in Delhi after protest crackdown

Nearly 100 activists and protesters gathered on October 11 for a demonstration organized by the All India Students' Association (AISA), which began at 2:30 pm from RK Ashram Marg metro station. The protest call had been announced just 30 minutes prior to the start time.

As the group marched toward Connaught Place, security forces quickly moved to contain the demonstration, setting up barricades and blocking additional protesters from joining. Reporters were forcefully pushed back as detention buses arrived on the scene. Unlike previous detentions, authorities prevented any media coverage of the arrests taking place.

Inside the cordoned area, Central Reserve Police Force personnel and Delhi Police separated male and female protesters into different groups, ordering them to kneel on the road before boarding detention buses. The buses featured metal railings creating three separate cells that could be locked from the outside. Several protesters reported physical mistreatment during the detention process, including use of batons and physical assault.

Central Delhi has seen heightened security measures over the past week, with roads to the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar blocked off. Multiple detention buses have been stationed throughout the area, leading to several instances of ordinary citizens, including hospital visitors and delivery workers, being mistakenly detained for hours.
