Delhi CM Promises Enhanced Safety After Meeting Women College Students
Student representatives from universities across the capital raised concerns about campus security, street lighting, and police presence during a meeting with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met with student representatives from women's colleges across Delhi on Monday, hearing their concerns about safety and pledging to take action on the issues raised. The interaction took place at Mukhyamantri Jan Seva Sadan, where students from institutions including Lady Shri Ram College, Gargi College, and Daulat Ram College presented their demands.
Students emphasized the need for improved street lighting, regular safety audits, illumination of poorly lit areas, deployment of female police officers, and increased patrols on campuses. They also proposed establishing safety committees at every college, comprising principals, student representatives, and local police officers to monitor security measures including streetlights, CCTV cameras, and hostel facilities.
The Chief Minister informed students about ongoing work to install approximately 100,000 smart streetlights across Delhi, which will be connected to an Integrated Command and Control Centre. She reminded students to use the emergency helpline number 112 for police assistance and announced that a WhatsApp group would remain active for direct communication between students and officials.
Additional concerns raised by students included better public transport access, CCTV surveillance, improved grievance redressal systems at the college level, and enhanced security in areas with large student populations such as Siri Fort Road, Mukherjee Nagar, and around metro stations. Gupta assured students that their suggestions would be forwarded to concerned officials and that effective grievance redressal and student safety remain government priorities.
